The difference between Erotica and Erotic Romance Stories
I love writing romantic stories about people falling in love, having great sex, and maintaining a relationship afterwards (usually what everyone calls “happily ever after”). There are some important distinctions, however, between Erotica and Erotic Romance. I hope this helps to clarify the difference between these two romance genres.
Erotica
Erotica stories focus on the main character(s) sexual journey, not the progression of romance. Yes, there can be component of romance in the story and a “happily ever after”, but it is not a requirement of an erotica story.
Erotic Romance
Erotic romance stories focus on the development of a romantic relationship that includes sex as a way for characters to express themselves to each other. The “happy ever after” is a requirement of erotic romance stories.
